Feedback

Frequently Asked Questions

If a user's Feedback Rating is pretty high, does that mean that the user is a good trading partner?

Not necessarily. You should never judge a user on their Feedback Rating number alone. By looking at a high feedback number, you know that the person received many positive comments. But you don't know how many negatives they might have. Experienced eBay users always check a new trading partner's Feedback Profile for details.

Under what situations should I leave feedback?

You can leave feedback as often as you want. By leaving feedback you make a difference in helping shape the eBay community. Feedback is by and for the members of our community. Here, your opinion matters. What you say and believe has a direct impact on the success and behavior of other eBay members. Your active involvement reinforces good behavior, and punishes bad. If you were treated properly by a buyer or seller, reward them with a positive feedback. After all, this is the kind of behavior you want to see repeated. On the other hand, if someone treats you improperly, leave a negative comment. (We always advise that you attempt to resolve the problem with the other individual before you leave a negative feedback comment. Most problems can be solved with better communication.)

My feedback score changed because someone who had left me feedback is no longer a registered user. What is this all about?

Occasionally eBay changes a registered user's status to not a registered user . When this occurs, all feedback left by that user for any other member is set to zero. The comment is not removed. This may cause your score to go up or down by a single point, depending upon the type of comment the person left you. We regret if this changes your feedback score. When this change occurs, the user is designated as (not a registered user) on your Feedback Profile.

Can I leave transaction-related feedback if the reserve was not met?

No. A reserve price auction qualifies for transaction-related feedback only when there is a successful bid above the reserve.

Does transaction-related feedback mean that any bidder is eligible, or just winning bidders?

Only the seller and successful bidder (one for regular auction, multiple for Dutch) can leave transaction-related feedback. Unsuccessful bidders or sellers in an auction with no successful bids may not leave transaction-related feedback for that auction.

How do I leave a response to a feedback comment left for me?

Go to Review Feedback Others Have Left About You and click on an envelope icon for the message to which you want to respond. There will not be envelope icons for messages for which you have already left comments, or for feedback messages generated before we implemented this new feature in February 1999.

How do I leave a follow-up comment when a response message has been left for my original feedback comment?

Go to Review Feedback you Have Left About Others and click on the envelope icon for the response on which you want to follow-up. There won't be an envelope icon if there is no response message or if the original feedback message was left before we implemented this new feature in February 1999.

For how long after a transaction may I leave transaction-related feedback?

If you wish to relate feedback to a transaction, you must leave your feedback comment within 60 days of the end of the auction. Beyond 60 days, comments are treated as non-transaction related.
